Briefe: Eenhana junior secondary school sagt danke! (29.06.2010)
Hi Mr. and Mrs. Werner Behrens,
I am writing you because of your generous clothing donation to the needy students at Eenhana Junior Secondary School. There are 500 students at the school, 200 of which are AIDS orphans. Many of the students live in shacks in poor condition so they can attend school, otherwise some would have to walk close to 200 kilometers to school from the bush in Northern Namibia. I am an American teaching English, computer (there is 1 working computer for 500 kids), and HIV/AIDS education for the next two months. I am teaching through the program World Teach, which places people like me in schools all over Namibia for a few months, or a year's time.
Needless to say, when Winfred Metzger approached me at the school one morning about distributing your donation of clothes, I was more than thrilled to comply. The principal, teachers and I worked to organize the clothes into women's, men's, and toddler's piles. We then let some of the students who are young mothers go through the toddler pile and pick out clothes for their babies. After school, all students who were orphans or in vulnerable conditions were allowed to choose one item of clothing until everyone had something, and then the process started over again.
On behalf of the students, teachers, and principal of Eenhana Junior Secondary School, thank you again for your generous gift, the kids were so happy to have a new pair of clothes (as most of their clothes are now in tatters from wearing them practically every day).
Please don't hesitate to e-mail with more questions about the school or the kids, I would be happy to answer. Also, if you need assesments of schools in Namibia that you would like to donate to (IE what they need), I can help with that as well, as there are over 30 other World Teach American teachers in schools all over the country. I can put you in contact with the Namibia field director, if you like.
Have a great day and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Meredith Baker
